Hello! This is the third e-newsletter for Together at a Distance: The Pan-Arctic E-Learning Project. Check out our first e-newsletter if you would like to know more about the beginnings of the project. If you'd like to be removed from our contact list just drop us a line through the contact us link.

We are now looking for sites for pilots which we hope to hold:

  • between September and December 2009 in Nunavut communities
  • between January and April 2009 in Nunatsiavut, Nunavik and the NWT

If you are interested in holding a pilot please contact us. Are you are holding a meeting or a conference during which you might hold pilot sessions? We will provide:

  • workshop leader (no charge)
  • broadband modem in Nunavut for duration of workshop (no charge)
  • four notebook computers (no charge)

The first two workshops; What is E-Learning? and How to take an E-course are now available for viewing on the NDLP site. Revisions have been made to improve and refine these workshops based on the thoughtful comments and survey responses of many participants.

Work is well underway on the next workshop, How to be an E-Teacher. This workshop should be extremely helpful to anyone engaged in teaching or training using e-learning. Topics will include but are by no means limited to:

  • Teaching an e-course: a cultural shift
  • Changes in three roles from classroom teacher to e-teacher
      • Affective
      • Cognitive
      • Managerial
  • Understanding your unique responsibilities as an e-teacher
  • What supports are available to e-teachers?
  • Establishing Teacher Presence
  • Managing your E-Class
  • Assistive Technologies

We are pleased to announce the formation of the Together at a Distance Advisory Committee.

The functions of the committee are:

  • To provide guidance to the “Team” in development and rollout of the three components of the project: workshops, portal, research.
  • To help promote the project within their own circles of influence
  • Help ensure the “Team” meets or exceeds the outcomes in Schedule A of the contibution agreement between the Nunavut Department of Education and Human Resources and Skills Development Canada.
